Exodus 36

S- Exodus 36:8 And all the able and wisehearted men among them who did the work on the tabernacle made ten curtains of fine twined linen and blue, purple, and scarlet [stuff], with cherubim skillfully worked on them (AMP). Exodus 36:8 All the skilled workers made the holy tent. They made ten curtains out of finely twisted linen. They made them with blue, purple and bright red yarn. A skilled worker sewed cherubim into the pattern.

O- Matthew Henry’s Commentary: 36:1-38 The making of the tabernacle The liberality of the people restrained. – The readiness and zeal with which these builders set about their work, the exactness with which they performed it, and the faithfulness with which they objected to receive more contributions, are worthy of our imitation. Thus should we serve God, and our superiors also, in all things lawful. Thus should all who are in public trusts abhor filthy lucre, and avoid all occasions and temptations to covetousness. Where have we the representation of God’s love towards us, that we by love dwell in him and he in us, save in Emmanuel? Mt 1:23. This is the sum of the ministry of reconciliation, 2Co 5:18,19. This was the design of the tabernacle of witness, a visible testimony of the love of God to the race of men, however they were fallen from their first state. And this love was shown by Christ’s taking up his abode on earth; by the Word being made flesh, Joh 1:14, wherein, as the original expresses it, he did tabernacle among us.

A- I need to remember that Jesus is the tabernacle that lives in me. I can worship him anywhere I go because he is in everything that is Holy and good.

K-  Lord, thank you for dwelling inside of me, and that I can worship you anywhere I go because you are in everything that is Holy and good. Lord, create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast Spirit within me. Lord, continue to prune out my anger, and bad temper because it is not bearing fruit for you, and continue to mold me into the woman of God that you have called me to be In your name Amen.

Effortless Healing by Dr. Joesph Mercola

I do love how Dr. Mercola has 9 Healing principles which I do love how he broke it down. I enjoyed Healing Principle 1 where he talks about drinking pure water. I know for me it is possible to drink pure water, but it is not possible to get a water filtration for the shower or the whole house this is really expensive he does break down in the book how much that would be. He does mention not to drink Sports Drinks because there is brominated vegetable oil in them, but the last I heard they are removing that from all Sports drinks. I also tried to put a small amount of Himalyan salt in my water as he suggested it was gross I do not recommend it, and he did recommend Coconut Water not sure I will try that though.

Healing Principle 2 is about eating your veggies which I am a fan of eating more vegetables. I am glad he breakdown how much Potassium is in each vegetable because it makes it less confusing for people who want more vegetables in their diet. I know that I have been lacking in eating vegetables. Dr. Mercola recommends that you grow your own sprouts which if I had time and patience I would grow some sprouts, but the reality is that I wouldn’t use them enough so that is not an option for me.

Healing Principle 3 presents 4 myths he says that the myth: A calorie is a Calorie is a calorie is not true. It is your lifestyle choices over the long-term are the key to dietary success. He says if the calories you consume primarily come from sugar and grains bread, pasta, rice, cookies, even fruit you’re conditioning your body to burn sugar as it primary fuel. Not sure how fruit contributes to the sugar since they are always saying to eat your fruits and vegetables.

Myth 2: High Fat Diets are Bad for you. He says this is false because you need to eat healthy fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, olives, butter, eggs, avocados, and nuts.

Myth 3: Eating Breakfast helps you lose weight, and this is the one I disagree with because I know if I go without food for long periods of time I am ready to drop. Dr. Mercola recommends intermittent calorie restriction which is abstaining from foods or what he calls it effortless eat.

Myth 4: Eat several Small meals a day . He says our bodies were not designed to regularly consistently digest food all day long. .He says that when you skip breakfast you mimic the natural fluctuations in food availability that your ancestor’s encountered. I am not a fan of his fasting idea because he does not take into account the people who are type 1 diabetic. He talks a lot about eating healthy fats while you are fasting. He mentions that you need to start slow when fasting he says to go as long as you can without eating. That you are not suppose to eat 3 hours before bed, but most people should know this by now. He recommends that you not eat before you workout.

Healthy Principle 4 I am enjoying this principle so far because he talks about how you need to stand up more when you are working at a desk job, and that we should all pay attention to our posture. I do like how he gives the benefits of formal exercise. He says that less exercise equals more, and he talks about Peak fitness. The Peak fitness he says:

  • Warm up for three minutes
  • exercise as hard and fast as you can for 30 seconds. You should feel like you couldn’t possibly go on another few seconds.
  • Recover for 90 seconds, still moving, but at a slower pace.
  • Repeat the high-intensity exercise and recovery cycle seven more times. (When you’re first starting out, you may be able to do only two or three repetitions of the high-intensity intervals. As you get fitter, just keep adding repetitions until you’re doing eight during your 20-minute session.)
  • Afterward, cooled down for two minutes by slowing the pace of the exercise you were doing during these “sprints.” After you’ve cooled down, your total time working out will be 21 minutes (less if you don’t complete all eight reps of the high-intensity-rest cycle).
  • It may take you a few weeks to a few months to work up to eight reps.

He does mention stretching which I am guilty of not stretching, and I already do yoga which he does suggest that everybody do because there are many benefits to it.

Healing Principle 5: Mercola suggests that you expose 40% of your body to the sun to get your Vitamin D. I won’t agree with using a tanning bed even though he recommends an electronic ballast. Most of the information in this section people already know about how being in the sun too long can affect you.

These are the top five principles I have chosen because there are 4 more principles, but I will not spoil them for you so I would suggest to pick up the book, and read it for yourself so that way you can tell whether you like it or not. My opinion of this book is I already knew about Yoga, and going barefoot were good for me long before Mercola ever mentioned it in his book. I have received this book from blogging for books in exchange for my honest review.

Exodus 35

S- Exodus 35:1-3 Moses gathered all the congregation of the Israelites together and said to them, These are the things which the Lord has commanded that you do: Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day shall be to you a holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord; whoever works [on that day] shall be put to death. You shall kindle no fire in all your dwellings on the Sabbath day (AMP). Exodus 35:1-3 Moses gathered the whole community of Israel together. He said to them, “Here are the things the Lord has commanded you to do. You must do your work in six days. But the seventh day will be your holy day. It will be a day of sabbath rest to honor the Lord. You must rest on it. Anyone who does any work on it must be put to death. Do not even light a fire in any of your homes on the Sabbath day (NIRV).”

O- Matthew Henry’s Commentary: The mild and easy yoke of Christ has made our sabbath duties more delightful, and our sabbath restraints less irksome, than those of the Jews; but we are the more guilty by neglecting them. Surely God’s wisdom in giving us the sabbath, with all the mercy of its purposes, are sinfully disregarded. Is it nothing to pour contempt upon the blessed day, which a bounteous God has given to us for our growth in grace with the church below, and to prepare us for happiness with the church above?
A- I need to quit neglecting to take a rest day because to be honest I have only taken a rest day when I feel really sick. I need to remember that by taking a rest day it doesn’t mean that it is a bad thing to do, but it means that I will be a better version of myself.

K- Lord, thank you for the reminder time and again that I really need to take a rest day, and just worship in your presence sometimes it is hard for me to be still because I think that I always need to get things done otherwise I will feel lazy. Lord, continue to mold me into the woman of God that you have called me to be, and continue to prune anything out of my life that is not bearing fruit for you. Create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast Spirit within me.

Exodus 34

S- Exodus 34:5-9 And the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord! the Lord! a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness and truth, Keeping mercy and loving-kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but Who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children, to the third and fourth generation. And Moses made haste to bow his head toward the earth and worshiped. And he said, If now I have found favor and loving-kindness in Your sight, O Lord, let the Lord, I pray You, go in the midst of us, although it is a stiff-necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for Your inheritance. Exodus 34:5-9 Then the Lord came down in the cloud. He stood there with Moses and announced his name, the Lord. As he passed in front of Moses, he called out. He said, “I am the Lord, the Lord. I am the God who is tender and kind. I am gracious. I am slow to get angry. I am faithful and full of love. I continue to show my love to thousands of people. I forgive those who do evil. I forgive those who refuse to obey me. And I forgive those who sin. But I do not let guilty people go without punishing them. I cause the sins of the parents to affect their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.” Moses bowed down to the ground at once and worshiped. “Lord,” he said, “if you are pleased with me, then go with us. Even though these people are stubborn, forgive the evil things we have done. Forgive our sin. And accept us as your people.”

O- Matthew Henry’s Commentary: The Lord descended by some open token of his presence and manifestation of his glory in a cloud, and thence proclaimed his NAME; that is, the perfections and character which are denoted by the name JEHOVAH. The Lord God is merciful; ready to forgive the sinner, and to relieve the needy. Gracious; kind, and ready to bestow undeserved benefits. Long-suffering; slow to anger, giving time for repentance, only punishing when it is needful. He is abundant in goodness and truth; even sinners receive the riches of his bounty abundantly, though they abuse them. All he reveals is infallible truth, all he promises is in faithfulness. Keeping mercy for thousands; he continually shows mercy to sinners, and has treasures, which cannot be exhausted, to the end of time. Forgiving iniquity, and transgression, and sin; his mercy and goodness reach to the full and free forgiveness of sin. And will by no means clear the guilty; the holiness and justice of God are part of his goodness and love towards all his creatures. In Christ’s sufferings, the Divine holiness and justice are fully shown, and the evil of sin is made known. God’s forgiving mercy is always attended by his converting, sanctifying grace. None are pardoned but those who repent and forsake the allowed practice of every sin; nor shall any escape, who abuse, neglect, or despise this great salvation. Moses bowed down, and worshipped reverently. Every perfection in the name of God, the believer may plead with Him for the forgiveness of his sins, the making holy of his heart, and the enlargement of the Redeemer’s kingdom.
A- I need to remember that the Lord has forgiven me for any sins that I have committed, and he is a merciful and loving God. Our God is faithful to us.

K- Lord, thank you for forgiving any of my sins that I have committed, and thank you for being a merciful and loving God. Lord, create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast Spirit within me. Lord, continue to mold me into the woman of God that you have created me to be, and continue to prune anything out of my life that is not bearing fruit for you. Amen

A Sexual Assault Survivor

disclaimer: I am going to finally try and share about an incident I have never spoken about until now. I feel it is time to share my story to help other Women. I will say some of the events I don’t remember as well because it has been almost 16 years since the event happened.

It was the Summer of 1999 my then boyfriend was at work, and I was at home watching tv, but for some reason I went outside of the apartment to get something out of storage, and I don’t remember what it was for now. I locked myself out of the apartment, and sat by the apartment door dressed in blue sweat shorts, and a tee shirt. An older gentlemen came by and asked if I wanted to wait for my boyfriend at his apartment at the time I thought he was just being nice to me. I was naïve, and of course at 19 who thinks that something horrible is about to happen to them.

Well, we went back to his apartment had some pop and chips, and it seemed really harmless at the time, but in the early morning things started to take a deadly turn. He tried to rape me, and I really tried to fight him off by kicking and screaming. Then he pulled out a knife, and said that if I did not cooperate with him he was going to kill me. I really couldn’t tell you when he stopped because I was in shock right after that, and I went back to the apartment, and told my boyfriend. He said we are going to my parents house to call the cops.

The cops finally came to the house to grill me for what seemed like hours about the events that happened that night. How the heck do they expect you to remember what exactly happened when you have been traumatized? For the next couple of weeks I really didn’t want to get intimate because I felt ashamed by what happened to me. I couldn’t tell you how long until I went to the prosecutor’s office all in vain in my personal opinion because he was never prosecuted for what he did to me. He lied about the events, and said I consented to it, and he hid the Swiss army knife. He would not take a lie detector test.

A about a year later I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, and I was married to the guy I was living with, but the reality is I had not dealt with the pain of it because I was afraid to take a walk around the block because I thought I would be attacked. I did end up getting some counseling to help me deal with it. Almost 16 years later I no longer will walk outside at night because I am afraid that somebody will hurt me. This event taught me to be better aware of my surroundings. I am cautious of who I talk to. This event has led me to be a Social Worker, and last year I received my Associates Degree. I have not stopped living life.

I encourage Women to be aware of your surroundings. Be cautious, but not afraid to live your life. I am an advocate for Women’s rights. I have never talked about this still now because I felt afraid, and thought I would be judged and criticized since our society blames the victim, but in some cases it’s not the victim’s fault. We do not choose for this to happen to us. It’s time as a country we come together on this issue, and quit blaming the victim. No, it is not always about what we wear because I was in my jammies when the event happened to me. I finally shared my story.

Ladies, please be aware of your surroundings, take self-defense classes. If you have to go out at night take somebody along with you. Ladies, if you have been sexually assaulted please talk about it because I waited a year to seek help, and for me that was hard, but in the end it was worth it.

Exodus 33

S- Exodus 33:7-11 Now Moses used to take [his own] tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting [of God with His own people]. And everyone who sought the Lord went out to [that temporary] tent of meeting which was outside the camp. When Moses went out to the tent of meeting, all the people rose and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses until he had gone into the tent. When Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the door of the tent, and the Lord would talk with Moses. 10 And all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the tent door, and all the people rose up and worshiped, every man at his tent door. 11 And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses returned to the camp, but his minister Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the [temporary prayer] tent (AMP). Exodus 33:7-11 Moses used to take a tent and set it up far outside the camp. He called it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone who wanted to ask the Lord a question would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. When Moses would go out to the tent, everyone would get up and stand at the entrances to their tents. They would watch Moses until he entered the tent. As Moses would go into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down. It would stay at the entrance while the Lord spoke with Moses. 10 The people would see the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent. Then all of them would stand and worship at the entrances to their tents. 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face like one would speak to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp. But Joshua, his young helper, didn’t leave the tent. Joshua was the son of Nun (NIRV).

O- Matthew Henry’s Commentary:  Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp. This seems to have been a temporary building, set up for worship, and at which he judged disputes among the people. The people looked after him; they were very desirous to be at peace with God, and concerned to know what would come to pass. The cloudy pillar which had withdrawn from the camp when it was polluted with idolatry, now returned. If our hearts go forth toward God to meet him, he will graciously come to meet us.
A- To remember that as along as my heart goes toward God to meet him, he will graciously come out to meet me. To also remember that the heart of worship is inside of me not a tabernacle.

K- Lord, thank you that as my heart goes toward you that you will graciously come t to meet me. Also that the heart of worship is inside of me, and not a tabernacle. Lord, create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast Spirit within me. Lord, also continue to mold me into the Woman of God that you have called me to be, and continue to prune out the judgmental anger that I have towards some Women who are not like me.

Exodus 32

S- Exodus 32:1-6 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, [they] gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, Up, make us gods to go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him. So Aaron replied, Take the gold rings from the ears of your wives, your sons, and daughters, and bring them to me. So all the people took the gold rings from their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold at their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made it a molten calf; and they said, These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt! And when Aaron saw the molten calf, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord. And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play (AMP). Exodus 32:1-6 The people saw that Moses took a long time to come down from the mountain. So they gathered around Aaron. They said to him, “Come. Make us a god that will lead us. This fellow Moses brought us up out of Egypt. But we don’t know what has happened to him.” Aaron answered them, “Take the gold earrings off your wives, your sons and your daughters. Bring the earrings to me.” So all the people took off their earrings. They brought them to Aaron. He took what they gave him and made it into a metal statue of a god. It looked like a calf. Aaron shaped it with a tool. Then the people said, “Israel, here is your god who brought you up out of Egypt.” When Aaron saw what they were doing, he built an altar in front of the calf. He said, “Tomorrow will be a feast day to honor the Lord.” So the next day the people got up early. They sacrificed burnt offerings and brought friendship offerings. They sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance wildly in front of their god (NIRV).

O- Matthew Henry’s commentary: While Moses was in the mount, receiving the law from God, the people made a tumultuous address to Aaron. This giddy multitude were weary of waiting for the return of Moses. Weariness in waiting betrays to many temptations. The Lord must be waited for till he comes, and waited for though he tarry. Let their readiness to part with their ear-rings to make an idol, shame our niggardliness in the service of the true God. They did not draw back on account of the cost of their idolatry; and shall we grudge the expenses of religion? Aaron produced the shape of an ox or calf, giving it some finish with a graving tool. They offered sacrifice to this idol. Having set up an image before them, and so changed the truth of God into a lie, their sacrifices were abomination. Had they not, only a few days before, in this very place, heard the voice of the Lord God speaking to them out of the midst of the fire, Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image? Had they not themselves solemnly entered into covenant with God, that they would do all he had said to them, and would be obedient? ch. 24:7. Yet before they stirred from the place where this covenant had been solemnly made, they brake an express command, in defiance of an express threatening. It plainly shows, that the law was no more able to make holy, than it was to justify; by it is the knowledge of sin, but not the cure of sin. Aaron was set apart by the Divine appointment to the office of the priesthood; but he, who had once shamed himself so far as to build an altar to a golden calf, must own himself unworthy of the honour of attending at the altar of God, and indebted to free grace alone for it. Thus pride and boasting were silenced.

A- Have I made idols that take away from my relationship with God? What have I chosen to worship over God?

K- Lord, thank you for the reminder that I am not suppose to make idols before you, and that I need to keep my eyes upon you. Lord, create in me a pure heart, and renew a steadfast Spirit within me. Lord, continue to mold me into the woman of God that you have called me to be, and continue to prune anything out of my life that is not bearing fruit for you.
